Pathways to a Griffith University Degree

Progression:
Students will progress to their bachelor degree upon completion of their Griffith College diploma with a GPA equivalent to Griffith University’s admission rank requirement for entry to the bachelor program. Contact Griffith College for GPA to rank equivalencies. Diploma students who do not meet the progression requirements for their pathway to Griffith University can apply for a place in their preferred degree via QTAC, and be considered along with other external applicants subject to QTAC admissions requirements and processes.


*80 credit points is equivalent to one year of full-time study. Completion of degrees where students obtain less than 80 credit points of advanced standing in the degree, may take additional time.

International students

First Trimester

Students who enter with IELTS <6.0 or equivalent will be required to undertake the free Language Development Modules as part of their program.

Academic & Professional Skills Development (1201QBT)

The course offers students a broad introduction to the skills involved in acquiring information and in displaying knowledge to others. It includes the basic knowledge and skills required to successfully participate in an undergraduate degree program and to operate effectively in a professional context.

The Purpose of Business (1004GBS)

This course introduces students to a perspective of the purpose of business that embeds values such as responsible leadership, integrity and ethical behaviour, respect for others, trust, and sustainable enterprise. The relevance of these values and their impact on behaviour and outcomes in a business context is demonstrated to students through case studies, real world examples, and testimonials from industry partners. Following from the discussion of values, the course then looks at how businesses develop solutions to respond to increasing demand for sustainability, transparency and good governance. The framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is introduced and used to examine the alignment between business practices and sustainable solutions to real life problems faced by a business. The course also considers the role and responsibility (including legal) of professionals and professional standards in today’s society.

The Future of Work (1007GBS)

Global forces are rapidly changing the way we work. Globalisation, automation and digital communication have altered the way that employees engage with the workplace and provide value to employers. Career pathways have changed too. It is likely that you will have many jobs across a variety of careers and industries in your lifetime. Rapid advances in technology are enabling firms to automate processes, which is displacing or changing routine work. Simultaneously, the power of knowledge workers is rising. In parallel, new industries and new forms of collaborative and distance-based work are emerging. All of this is offering new challenges and opportunities. In this course you will explore how rapid technological advances are creating digital disruption that will impact your work in the future. It will enable you to identify opportunities to craft your own career pathway in a rapidly globalising, knowledge and service-intense economy.

Business Decision-Making (1008GBS)

The aim of the course is to explain the way people behave and make decisions in a business environment and the role that information has in the context of decision-making. It will also tackle some of the critical questions around the use of information for business decision making: how to assess the validity/reliability and relevance of the information we receive, how to use it effectively, how to simplify information, make it relevant, and present it to different audiences.

Second Trimester

Grand Challenges for Business (1009GBS)

We live in a VUCA ( volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) world today. The grand challenges facing humanity are urgent, systemic, complicated and evolving faster than ever before. That is why the World Economic Forum has listed complex problem solving as one of the top ten skills for the 21st century. Complex problem solving requires critical and lateral thinking, reasoning, analysis, interpretation, synthesising information, research skills, reflection, creativity, curiosity, imagination, innovation, perseverance, self-direction, planning, self-discipline, adaptability, initiative, teamwork and collaboration. In this course, you will be exposed to concepts and frameworks associated with grand challenges and problem-solving techniques. Through interactive course materials and weekly workshops, you will learn by doing – look at problems from different perspectives, apply (where possible) solutions to grand challenges in a proper context, and very importantly, learn how to pitch your solutions.

Engaging Australia and the Asia-Pacific (1005GBS)

The world has become increasingly interconnected as a result of increased trade, communication and cultural exchange. This interconnection, or globalisation, creates a need for you to develop intercultural, knowledge, understanding and competence. In this course you will explore Australia’s place in the Asia-Pacific region with its accompanying strong cultural ties to the history of Australia’s First Peoples and the Western world. You will examine the influences of the past, contemporary issues and possibilities for the future. This course is designed to commence your professional learning about the cultural protocols and knowledge required when engaging in cross-cultural relationships within Australia and across the Asia-Pacific region.

Why Money Matters (1006GBS)

In an increasingly complex financial system, independence and effective decision making are important life skills. In business, financial skills drive profitability within the rules and regulations of government, institutions and organisations. In this course you will understand basic monetary flows in the economy, and the interrelationships and dependencies between money, society, groups and organisations, locally and globally. You will develop core skills in financial literacy for business and an understanding of the key principles of accounting, finance and economics. Sound accounting, finance and economics skills are sought by employers in any business graduate, as they enable a solid understanding of the principles that drive enterprise toward success.
