Support for Under 18s

Griffith College has specific support structures to help monitor the progress of students who hold a student visa, are under 18, and have approved welfare arrangements with the College.

We appreciate what a major upheaval the move to a new environment can be for a young student and the concerns it can bring parents and/or guardians. As well as caring greatly for the safety and welfare of all our students, appropriate arrangements are made for monitoring the welfare and academic progress of international students who are under 18 years of age and have approved welfare arrangements with the College.

All international students who are under 18 years of age are required to attend appointments with the Student Counsellor at certain times throughout the trimester.

Students will be notified by the Student Counsellor of the date and time they are required to attend these appointments which are designed to determine if there are any problems with your living arrangements and if you are experiencing difficulties academically or personally.

Should a student who is under 18 years of age fail to attend appointments with the Student Counsellor, the student’s parents may be contacted and/or the student may be reported to the Australian Department of Home Affairs (HA). Please note there are also specific requirements regarding accommodation for under 18-year-olds.

Students under the age of 18 are encouraged to seek assistance if/when required and can report any incident or allegation of abuse. Please see Reporting and Disclosure for details on how to report a concern.
